Shamicka's
the "cover girl" for "AFROS: A Celebration
of Natural Hair"
"When I
went to purchase my first copy of the book, the store clerk
pointed to a wall of letters with some pictures attached, behind the register.
When I asked her where they had come from she said 'they were letters from girls
all over the country that had been touched by this very special book.' One story
that touched my heart was of a little 13 year old, bi-racial girl who hated her
natural hair and to no avail her grandmother had not been able to convince her
otherwise. Her grandmother heard about the book and got it for her. When she
looked through the book she saw volume, texture, curls, color, frizz and BEAUTY.
She wrote that the book finally helped her see her hair as unique, fun and her
own mane of glory! It’s
stories like these that make me grateful to be a part of this unique piece of
history.
My heart still smiles in awe of the honor that it is to be the Cover
Girl!
Shamicka
recently shot her first Harlequin Romance
book cover under the art direction of Tamika
Quillard, she's going to be adorning more
covers so be on the lookout!
When
not on the stage or set Shamicka enjoys various modeling
opportunities in LA.
Shamicka
was chosen as the face of Grubhub's print
marketing campaign that has been prominentaly
displayed all over Chicago and LA.
She was chosen as one
of the featured models for the Hair Artists of Sebastian
for their What's Next contest. These stylists set
the trends for the following season to come.
She
was a demo/runway model for Pravana, a leading line
of hair color and hair care products for salon professionals
at the International Salon Spa Expo.
